| Investigation were conducted
regarding subjective preference for simulated |
| acoustical environments of 6
auditoria via headphones. A group of professional |
| musicians and a group of general
listeners were asked to evaluate simulated |
| music by each of two solo
instruments. A forced-choice comparison was used |
| as the test procedure where
people picked their preferred sound field over the |
| other for each pair of music
segments. Test stimuli were generated by |
| convolution processes where
binaural impulse responses were recorded in the |
| field and input signals were
recorded in an anechoic room as the Pressure |
| Level were maintained at 80dB. |
| Both type of listeners
preferred a longer reverberation time for the cello |
| music than for the xylophone
music. The expert listeners can accept a wider |
| ranging of reverberation time
than the public listeners. The most important |
| physical parameter for affecting
subjective preference is G80. The overall |
| variance of the preferences can
be well explained by the combination of early |
| level(G80) and early decay
time(EDT) of the impulse responses. |
