Dulwich Picture Gallery is England's oldest public art gallery, designed in 1811 by Sir John Soane. The magnificent
collection of old masters, including works by Poussin, Claude, Rubens, Murillo, Van Dyck, Rembrandt, Watteau and
Gainsborough, was originally assembled for the King of Poland in the 1790s. When Poland was partitioned, an alternative
home was built for the paintings in the "clean air of Dulwich", at its heart a Mausoleum for the founders. The Gallery lies
in the beautiful 18th-century village of Dulwich, south London, and was described by The Sunday Telegraph as "the most
beautiful small art gallery in the world."
