Winner|Architectural Design / Social Housing

This social housing design aims to reproduce the local rice culture and history. The 〝sharing lifestyle〞and〝sharing entertainment〞are expected to be created between the new residence and local residence. Furthermore, to attract tourists to participate with these new lifestyles is important too. Thousands of ponds and hills in Taoyuan is the main feature of Nature, and this unusual landscape is used as the principal axis of this social housing design. Through the combination of organic form (public area) and module form (living area) to achieve the flexible utilization of space.

作品名稱:SEMI-ARTIFICIAL PHOTOSYNTHESIS SYSTEM (S.A.P.S.)

The SAPS mimics the root and stem and leaves of plants for semi-artificial photosynthesis. At the roots, we will give the water supply system within the building. In this artificial photosynthesis system, we bionic the roots, stems, veins, and leaf tissue of plants by 3D printing. We print the veins of the water in the frame of the curtain wall, which includes the water needed before photosynthesis. There are three layers of tissue in the frame, the upper cover (tempered glass), the cell frame(middle frame), the lower plate, and the artificial cells in the middle.

Semi-Artificial Photosynthesis System (S.A.P.S.)

Poverty Pier

Poverty in Metropolis?

With many rivers running through New York City, bridges have become an indispensable element of the city, undoubtedly. In order to provide those homeless people a place with safety and tidiness, one of the proper ways is to utilize the unused spaces under the bridges. However, those piers of bridges scattered along the rivers come in various sizes, so an executable method to tackle the problem is to turn the congregate shelters into different units. With those “Basic Units”, temporary shelters could adapt to different lengths, widths, and heights of bridges and the piers.

The seed

“The Seed”, a stage before the bloom of flowers, new life is covered by layers, rooting down, developing upwards, and infinite possibilities may be quietly sprouting.

Existing refuge houses are evacuated in the form of after-the-fact remedy. In this case, the losses will be relatively large. In the era when space demand is gradually expanding, super-floors will certainly exist.

The high-rise structure is difficult to resist and after the tornado scale F2. In addition to the building as a research center with high-precision equipment, so we need to insure the stability of the structure.

Therefore, I use “The Seed” to explain my architectural concept. With the idea of “rooting”, I will build the building deep into the ground, reducing the degree of shaking, more like the seed body in the soil, and the ground as a natural protective layer. Just like seed germination has different stages, we can make different deformations according to different levels of tornado grading.

When the tornado left, all “The Seed” bud slowly from the ground, and the whole flower sea bloomed with blue dazzling light. It was a tenacious life that stood still after the tornado, and it was the representative of Texas in the United States – Cornflower.

The project is located at the northeastern part of Greenland featuring the thickest ice sheet in Arctic, but may soon crack due to severe global warming. The major cause is that warm water flow touches the bottom of ice sheets, accelerating the recession. Thus, we build a high wall constructed at the transition zone of permanent ice sheets and icebergs to prevent it. The building is sat at the midpoint to monitor the icebergs, and arch-shape holes are designed as passageway for cracked ice. Besides, the Osmotic power facility is equipped at each hole to provide stable and sufficient energy.

Mexico city was developed based on automobile and highway. However, highway structure encourages segregation from both sides of land. Moreover, collection of abandon cars and auto junkyards often locate near highway, which result undesirable living environment such as slum situation and cause various social problems. This proposal targets on both urban issues by turning abandon cars into capsule living unit to form organized communities. It does not only reactive undesirable urban corner but also encourage opportunity for connection between both sides of highway via sky-bridge access.
