Master of Architecture with a concentration in Sustainable Design (MASD)

Program Overview

The program is for graduate students who are interested in environmental design that closely addresses ecological, social, and economic issues. Students who would like to participate and are admitted into the program will not only broaden their views on sustainability and design methods, but also enable themselves for holistic design thinking and better future professional work preparation. Since our international faculty members constantly conduct research and practice on diverse sustainable design issues, the initial MASD courses will focus on sustainable design studio, material resource, building energy, lighting analysis, environmental assessment, green building rating systems, and building information modeling.

The Curriculum

Total of 24 credit hours are required. Eighteen (18) credit hours shall be obtained from MASD Course List below. Six (6) credit hours of elective courses can be obtained from any of the graduate courses offered at Taiwan Tech, NTU, and NTNU with approval from the thesis advisor. A thesis is required for the MASD degree. Students will work with individual faculty on their thesis. A thesis committee of at least two faculty members from the Department of Architecture at Taiwan Tech shall be formed by the end of the second semester. Students can transfer up to six (6) graduate elective course credits from other institutes.

Doctor of Philosophy in Architecture with a concentration in Sustainable Design (PhDSD)

Program Overview

The program is for doctoral students who are interested in environmental design that closely addresses ecological, social, and economic issues. Students who would like to participate and are admitted into the program will not only broaden their views on sustainability and design methods, but also enable themselves for holistic design thinking and better future professional work preparation. Since our international faculty members constantly conduct research and practice on diverse sustainable design issues, the initial PhDSD courses will focus on sustainable design studio, material resource, building energy, lighting analysis, environmental assessment, green building rating systems, and building information modeling.

Total of 18 credit hours are required. Fifteen (15) credit hours shall be obtained from PhDSD Course List below. Three (3) credit hours of elective course can be obtained from any of the graduate courses offered at Taiwan Tech, NTU, and NTNU with approval from the dissertation advisor. A dissertation is required for the PhDSD degree. Students will work with individual faculty on their dissertation. A dissertation committee of at least two faculty members from the Department of Architecture at Taiwan Tech shall be formed by the end of the second semester. Students will not be able to transfer any course credits.
